I heard the author speak at the National Kitchen & Bath show and was impressed with her knowledge and advice, so I purchased her book. It is full of beautiful photos, but more importantly it has lots of good tips and information for anyone redoing or designing a kitchen. I am building a new home and although I have already read dozens of books, I still learned new things from her book. From the way the book is written it is clear that the author is intelligent, experienced in kitchen design, and focused on practicality and functionality. Especially for someone just starting to learn about kitchen design and planning, this book will be really useful and give you some great ideas. Much better to forego the mostly useless magazines and spend the money for this book which has real information.

We are renovating our kitchen and I have read this book several times. What an excellent find. It has information about flooring, countertops, layout, cabinets, and great kitchens to look at. Throughout the book there are helpful tips that I believe will really make our kitchen efficient– ie how deep and how high your pantry shelves should be so things don’t disappear and you can reach items.
For our renovation, I am duplicating a wine/butler’s pantry that I never would have thought of, plus a desk station (counter height b/c I don’t sit down- another helpful hint) from this book. They are beautiful.

My husband and I are at the beginning stage of a total home renovation, including a new kitchen addition. Thus far, I have purchased about a half dozen kitchen design books but none of them provides the practical advice to the extent that Lyn Peterson’s book does. I could have saved my money on the other books as Real Life Kitchens is the design “bible” I was looking for. It’s a little pricier than the others but well worth the extra money.

Excellent book which covers all the things you need to know. Not just photos although there are many & they are excellent, but also good solid information which you might not think about on your own.

I am a Kitchen & Bath Designer and own a Kitchen & Bath Showroom. I have quite an extensive library of design books to help assist my clients and also get new ideas. I have to say that this is one of the most complete books I own. It is an easy read. It is written so that it easy to understand but yet holds the interest of the professional. It is laid out well and helps the consumer understand pros and cons of several decisions that they will have to make. I agree with just about everything she says, which is very unusual for me, and it is a useful tool for me to use. I can loan my client the book and it reinforces everything I am telling them. If you buy no other book, I suggest you add this one to your shelf.
